Ftp to your Dragon folder

What is Dragon?

Dragon is the Network Attached Storage (NAS) unit that is part of the Wesleyan domain. All students have a Wesleyan domain account which gives you access to 50Mb of storage on this device. This can be a useful place to store files for printing in the labs, or for accessing them from other computers. The default password for Dragon is either your six digit date of birth (MMDDYY) followed by your Wes ID or simply the date of birth; your username is the same as your e-mail username (ex. jsmith).

Ftp is an easy way to get acces to Dragon while being off campus. To use FTP you need to use an FTP software such as Ws_Ftp which you can get by going to http://www.download.com and searching for Ws_Ftp. If you are a PC user you can also use Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer (make sure you have the latest version of Internet Explorer which you can get from http://www.microsoft.com).

If you use an Ftp software when you connect, you must use the following information:

  1. Server: dragon.wesleyan.edu
  2. Username: wesleyan\username where username is your email username. The username must be typed exactly as showed here.
  3. Password: your dragon password (the password you use to login in the labs - it should be set to be your 6 digit birthday plus/or WesID, unless you changed it
  4. Folder: the folder you need to browse to is, if your username is jdoe and you are class of 2004, you need to browse to /s04home/jdoe. Replace 04 with your own class year and jdoe with your email username.
  5. If you are on a PC, open internet explorer and in the address bar type ftp://jdoe@dragon.wesleyan.edu/s04home/jdoe. Replace jdoe and 04 as described above. When you are asked to login, use wesleyan/username for username and the password as above.

Creating a shortcut on your desktop (PC only)

While you are on the desktop right click in an empty space and go to New/Shortcut. This should open a window and where it says type the location of the item type ftp://jdoe@dragon.wesleyan.edu/s04home/jdoe, replacing 04 and jdoe with your own info and then click OK. Double click on the shortcut on the desktop and login with the same username and password as described above. Check the Save Password box if you do not want to type the log in info every time you double click the shortcut.
