E-mail Overquota
The basics of the system
- A quota-checker runs each night to determine which email accounts are over or nearing their quotas. Current quotas are 100MB for students and 30MB for faculty, staff, and alumni.
- If the account's size is within 5MB of being disabled, the user will receive a warning e-mail.
- If the account has exceeded the limit, the email user will receive a notification that the account is over quota and that their email functions have been restricted.
- The user must delete enough email on the server a sufficient quantity of email to bring the mailbox on the server under the limit before the account will be fully enabled again.
Restrictions on accounts that have gone over quota
- While over-quota, all email sent to the account from non-Wesleyan sites will be rejected. The sender will get an error message indicating that the mailbox is full.
- Email can still be sent.
- Any email sent from Wesleyan accounts will still be delivered.
How to bring your email account back under quota
- If you are using Pine or WebMail, any items you delete are deleted directly on the server. Just remember to expunge or purge the Trash.
- If you are using Eudora or Outlook, the mail you see in your inbox is stored locally on your own computer. You must make sure that the program settings indicate that email should be deleted from the mail server. Your program can be set to delete all mail on the server once it is delivered to you or to retain it on the server for a specific time period. Your Desktop Support Specialist or the Helpdesk can help you with these settings.
- Within 5 - 10 minutes after the email has been deleted, the account will be fully enabled.
