Resnet Overview

Resnet is the term for Wesleyan's Residential Computer Network; having access to Resnet means having access to the network and the internet from the wired ethernet connection in your residence. In order to use a computer on Resnet, the computer must first be registered. This registration process is separate for each computer, and a computer must be registered before it can log into wireless. Unregistered computers can still access wireless through guest access; however, certain limitations have been placed on wireless guests to ensure that students register their computers. Computers that have not been registered will only be able to access registration sites and the windows update website through the ethernet.

Getting Started

To use the Residential Network at Wesleyan you need a computer with an ethernet card and an ethernet cable. All of the Wesleyan residences are wired for Ethernet. Simply set up your computer and plug the ethernet cable into the appropriate port on your computer and then into the orange data jack in your room. Disable your wireless. Once this is completed, open a web browser on the computer. If you are on a PC, you must use internet explorer. You should be automatically redirected to the registration log-in page where you will be prompted to enter your e-mail username and password. If you cannot get to this page, try typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar. If you are still unable to connect, please contact the helpdesk for further assistance.

The Registration Process

Once you have logged in using your e-mail username and password, follow the registration instructions. Remember to leave your browser window open and your computer plugged in when you are waiting for scans. If you are on a PC your windows OS will be scanned to make sure you are running windows service pack 2. If you are not running service pack 2, please go to the windows update website and update your computer. Once you have completed registration, you must wait for the jack you are using to be reset to the normal subnet. This can take several hours, so please be patient. If your computer is still waiting to be switched after three hours, restart it and try again. If that does not work, call the helpdesk at ext. 4000. After your computer has been switched to the student subnet, you will be able to freely access the internet.
