Some folders are automatically shared in Windows XP, making your computer vulnerable to a number of viruses. To close this hole, go to My Computer, then right-click on Shared Documents. Choose "Sharing and Security". (This can also be reached through "Properties" under the "Sharing" tab.) |
| Uncheck "Allow network users to change my files" to close this security hole. Other shared folders on your computer can be found by going to Start -> Run and typing \\computername (substituting your computer name). This can be found in Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System and looking at the Computer Name tab. Check all folders for the offending setting to completely secure this particular vulnerability. |
